1. Wicked Fox by Kat Cho
If you know me, you know that I am a big fan of mythology/folklore and Korean drama series. According to the author, this book is inspired by both. Gu Miyoung is a gumiho—a nine-tailed fox who survives by feeding off the energy of men. One day, Miyoung encounters a teenage boy being attacked by a goblin. Despite her hesitancy, she saves him; however, in doing so, she looses her gumiho soul (in the form a fox bead). As she struggles between keeping Jihoon alive and restoring her gumiho soul, the two teenagers’ destinies become intertwined.
2. Think of a Number by John Verdon
My dad recommended this one to me. If, like me, you’re a fan of mysteries and dark suspense thrillers, this book just might be for you. Recently retired NYPD homicide detective Dave Gurney has just begun a new life with his wife, Madeleine, in upstate New York. What was meant to be a relaxing new time in his life is quickly turned upsidedown when he is faced with a startling puzzle—a puzzle which quickly turns into a serial murder investiagation.
3. Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood
One of my favourite shows right now is Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Cocaine Blues is the first book in the series which inspired the television adaptation. Phryne Fisher is a lady detective in 1920s Melbourne. No sooner does she arrive at the Hotel Windor when Phryne finds herself up to her neck in mystery and intrigue. From cocaine smuggling to poisoned spouses, Phryne has her work cut out for her.
